The Big Switch On

It'salmost time to switch on Mansfield's Christmas Lights. Following the success of last year The 2013 Big Switch On will take place on Sunday 17th November and is planned to be a family day out with lots happening in the town from 12 noon to 5pm. Visitors to the town can enjoy a festive fun day with seasonal films, music, a magical parade, fireworks and the most important man himself, Santa! Charity Day

A fund raising event to mark the change of name for Lloyds TSB bank is being held on Monday 23rd September. Lloyds TSB is splitting into two seperate banks and the branch on Church Street will be branded at Lloyds. The staff at this branch are holding a fund raising day hoping to raise money for the Hereditary Breast Cancer shop in West Gate. Wendy from the shop will cut the ribbon at 9am. Victoria Philips from Lloyds says that members of the public are very welcome to come along to the event.

Exciting times fro TK Maxx!

TK Maxx are currently under going a major refurbishment which will take place upto 11th October 2013. The work will take place during the night so the store can remain open for business. They plan to hold a Grand Opening when the work is completed on Saturday 12th October 2013. The opening event which will be advertised nearer the time will be from 10am on the Saturday, with the first 200 customers through the doors recieving a free £10 gift card. BID taps in to recycling waste cardboard

A new cardboard collection scheme for town centre businesses is being rolled out and could collect up to 50 tonnes of waste a year. Mansfield Business Improvement District (BID) has teamed up with the multi-award-winning Untapped Resources, a social enterprise based in Botany Avenue. The initiative will see weekly collections of cardboard, which will then be taken to be recycled. Businesses who have already signed up to the free scheme include Pizza Hut, Beales department store, Vivid Shoes, Paper Kisses, Health Food Store, Who’s Toys, Cash Convertors, Casey’s Coffee Bar and Suite Designs. Everyone's a winner!

Last weekend saw a fantastic turnout for the Mansfield Garden & Craft Festival 2013. Thousands turned out to see the best of vegetables and flowers on Saturday 14th and best of baking on Sunday 15th September. The winners were presented with rosettes, trophies and Best of Baking 'I Love Mansfield' aprons at the awards ceremony on Sunday. The event organised by the Mansfield BID on behalf of The Trustees for the Allotments for the labouring poor who helped fund the event.
