Academy’s Christmas “shop and drop” to help fund bank

Posted On: 24/11/2014 04:01:00

A Mansfield martial arts gym has come up with an innovative idea to help parents do their shopping while at the same time help people in need this Christmas.

The Instinctive Martial Arts & Fitness Gym, at 3 Stockwell Gate, has launched a Christmas shopping “drop off service”.

The idea is that parents drop their children off at the gym for a few hours, and then go and do their Christmas shop.

And, as the gym has committed to helping the Mansfield Food Bank this year, the only payment in return for children having fun in a safe environment, is a food parcel.

Owner and head coach Steve Hodgkinson said: “To support the food bank, we’re charging a ‘food parcel’ from the parents. They drop the kids, drop off their food, and, we take care of the rest.

“It fits in brilliantly with the ethos of sharing that is encouraged amongst all the students at the academy.”

Sarah Nelson, Manager at Mansfield Business Improvement District, said: “What a great idea from Steve. This will help parents, businesses and the people who rely on the service that the food bank provides.”

The gym prides itself on only teaching martial arts that are natural (for example no high kicks), functional, safe and fun. Students, of all ages and abilities, are taught how to live well through body and mind.
