Mansfield Safer Business Partnership
Mansfield Safer Business Partnership (MSBP) was launched in July 2006 and has proved to be very successful. In 2008 the scheme was expanded to include the night time economy. MSBP hold the Action Against Business Crime - Safer Business Award and have won a national award for promoting community safety. The Town Centre Partnerhsip has achieved a 25% reduction in crime since 2006. The scheme is managed by the Business Crime Coordinator, David Wilson, who reports to the Town Centre Manager. There are around 100 members, including local town centre businesses, District Council Enviro Crime Officers, Police and CCTV.
Members pay an initial joining fee, an annual fee based on size of premises, and have the option to lease or purchase security radios.
Membership Benefits are:
- 2 way Radio link to other members and to CCTV/Police
- Monthly meetings to raise issues, exchange information
- Monthly issue of photos of known offenders
- Weekly informal intelligence briefings
The intention of the operation is to reduce the levels of business crime and anti-social behaviour in Mansfield town centre by working in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police and the development of the Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team. Persistent criminals are excluded from shops and their photograph placed in an album and circulated to members to enforce the exclusions.

The aims of the scheme are:
- To improve the lines of communication between businesses and the Police.
- To reduce incidents of business crime.
- To identify and apprehend persistent shop thieves.
- To raise the profile of the serious effects of business crime with shop owners, managers, employees and security staff.
- To improve the security by retailers and to raise awareness of crime prevention.
- To reduce the threat of and the fear of violence against business staff.
- To develop partnerships between the Police and the business community.
Safer Neighbourhood :
Mansfield Town Centre has been accepted under Nottinghamshire Police Safer Neighbourhood Programme. Work is ongoing to develop structures, policies, procedures and joint partnership objectives.
Evening Economy:
From April 2008, MSBP will expand to the Evening Economy with an improved radio scheme and intelligence that will provide a vital link between the Day time and Evening Economies. The AABC Safer Socialising Award will also be introduced during 2008.
