East Midlands in Bloom 2009

Mansfield in Bloom 2008

Mansfield is gearing up for its entry into the Prestigious East Midlands in Bloom competition. The competition helps people take pride in where they live and work, as well as attracting tourists to the town. We owe much of our past successes to the support of local businesses and the community who over the years have worked hard to make their areas look attractive and welcoming. We hope to retain the Gold award for the second year running! Please download the brochure for more details on how you can help Mansfields bid for Gold. Mansfield in Bloom leaflet 2009

Business Improvement District (BID)

Following Mansfield's participation in the EMDA BIDs Academy during September 2007 - March 2008, consultants concluded that Mansfield was as suitable location for a Business Improvement District (BID). External funding of £100,000 from SSP, NCC and MDC have enabled consultants New Horizon to be appointed in February 2008 to develop the BID for Mansfield town centre. The consultants have provided a BIDs co-ordinator, Pat Parkes, who previously successfully developed the evening economy BID for Nottingham, and has recommended that we work towards a ballot in Sept/Oct 2009. Over 500 surveys have been delivered to businesses in the town centre and a separate on-street survey was conducted with the public during March 2009. There will now be two drop-in meetings to be held on:

Wednesday 22nd April between 5.30pm and 7pm at "And Why Not" Leeming St

Wednesday 29th April between 11am and 2pm in the Old Town Hall

Further information on BIDs can be found at www.ukbids.org

Driving into summer as car parking concessions are extended!

New Year car parking concessions in Mansfield are being extended until the summer as latest figures show a positive increase in the number of people visiting Mansfield Town Centre.

Figures show that since the introduction of the New Year parking concessions; the number of visitors to Mansfield Town Centre has increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2008.

In plans given the go-ahead by Executive Mayor, Tony Egginton, the New Year scheme, scheduled to end on 29 March, has now been extended until 30 June 2009.

This means that visitors to Mansfield will continue to benefit from:

These are Mansfield’s two largest car parks with 455 spaces in Walkden Street and 481 spaces available in the Four Seasons car park.

Extending the scheme is estimated to cost the District Council £55,000, which can be met using part of the Local Authority Business Growth Initiative (LABGI) grant from the Government.

Market stall rents, cut during January, February and March, will return to normal after successfully helping market traders during the traditionally slow trade of the ‘Kipper’ season.

Mayor Egginton commented: “I am delighted to be able to announce an extension to the parking concessions on offer in Mansfield two largest car parks until the end of June.”

“The recent parking concessions have seen a real increase of people visiting Mansfield Town Centre, and this has had a positive impact for local businesses during the current economic downturn.”

“I hope this will encourage more people to come along to Mansfield and support our many and varied shops in the town centre right through to the summer.”
